Mangaluru/Udupi: Udupi police arrested two Mangaluru residents on Wednesday for attempting to steal money from a Canara Bank ATM in Udyavara on February 12. The accused, identified as Aboobacker Siddiq (24) from Assaigoli and Mohammed Yasin (21) from Padil, allegedly tried to break open the ATM at around 2:40 a.m. However, as the alarm system was triggered, they fled the scene before completing the theft. The police registered a case under Sections 331(4), 305, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kaup police station.

Following an investigation, authorities traced and apprehended the suspects, recovering a two-wheeler, a machete, a hammer, a helmet, gloves, and other items used in the crime. Udupi police emphasized that increased surveillance and quick response helped thwart the attempted heist. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts to curb ATM-related crimes in the region, with police urging financial institutions to strengthen security measures further.
