Tragedy at NITK Beach: Mumbai Teen Drowns, Another Missing in Surathkal

Surathkal: A family outing turned tragic on Tuesday evening when an 18-year-old boy from Mumbai, Dhyan Banjan, drowned at the NIT-K beach in Surathkal. His 15-year-old relative, also from Mumbai, remains missing. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. when the duo, part of a 10-member family visiting from Soorinje, ventured too deep into the sea and were caught in powerful cross currents. Despite the lifeguard's efforts to pull Dhyan to safety, he was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

Authorities have launched an extensive search operation for the missing boy, enlisting help from Fire and Emergency Services, Coastal Security Police, and local lifeguards. The Surathkal police have registered a case and are continuing efforts to locate the teen. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the coastal community and raised concerns over beach safety, especially during strong current conditions.
