Over 160 Pairs of Buffaloes Compete in Thrilling Jaya Vijaya Kambala

Mangaluru: Jeppinamogaru witnessed an electrifying display of traditional buffalo racing as more than 160 pairs of buffaloes participated in the prestigious Jaya Vijaya Kambala. Organized by the Mankutotaguttu family in memory of their senior member J. Jayagangadhara Shetty, this event marked the 10th race of the ongoing Kambala season. The slushy tracks came alive as seasoned and young buffaloes, guided by skilled jockeys, competed in a high-energy spectacle that drew massive crowds and enthusiastic cheers.

The event kicked off with the ‘Negilu Hiriya’ category, where experienced buffaloes showcased their strength and agility, followed by the ‘Negilu Kiriya’ races featuring younger contenders. Among the star participants was ‘Nandalage Moda’ of Nandalike Shrikant Bhat, expertly handled by jockey Bombrana Bailu. Other notable competitors included ‘Boladaguttu Kamala’ and the powerful buffaloes from Krishapura Nadumane and Parameshwar Saliyan’s stable. The races saw intense competition, with 60 buffaloes in the ‘Negilu Kiriya’ category and 27 in the ‘Negilu Hiriya’ races, making it a thrilling and unforgettable event for Kambala enthusiasts.
