Mangaluru: The much-delayed twin Railway Under Bridge (RuB) project at Mahakalipadpu has yet again missed its deadline, leaving road users frustrated. The project, undertaken by Southern Railway and Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), was initially scheduled for completion in February 2025. However, work remains incomplete, causing continued inconvenience to commuters. Since the closure of the road on December 21, 2022, vehicles heading towards Thokkottu, Ullal, and Kasargod have been forced to take a longer route via Pumpwell Circle, leading to increased travel time and fuel costs. Despite promises made during the foundation stone ceremony in 2021, the project has seen multiple delays. While three out of the four required concrete boxes have been completed, work on the final one remains pending.

According to Divisional Railway Manager Arun Kumar Chaturvedi, technical challenges related to steep slopes at the project site necessitated micro-piling, delaying the box-pushing process. However, the ready-made concrete boxes are expected to be installed in the first week of April, with work slated for completion by the end of the month. Meanwhile, MSCL officials have confirmed that MESCOM is in the process of relocating electricity poles, and approach roads will soon be prepared. Authorities have assured that the entire project will be wrapped up before the onset of monsoon, offering a long-awaited relief to the city’s commuters.
