Mangaluru: Mayor Manoj Kumar has announced a joint inspection at AB Shetty Circle and Hamilton Circle to formulate a detailed action plan for easing traffic congestion in the area. Speaking at a council meeting on Thursday, he stated that the inspection will take place on Monday in the presence of corporators, officials from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), engineers from Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), and senior officers of the city’s traffic police. The move comes amid growing concerns over unscientific traffic management, which has been causing inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians.

The issue took center stage when corporator Abdul Latheef staged a protest in the council hall, highlighting the dire traffic situation following the removal of traffic circles. He emphasized that the current system is causing chaos and demanded immediate intervention. Supporting the concerns, corporator Sudheer Shetty Kannur suggested reinstating two-way traffic on the stretch to ease congestion. However, the mayor clarified that any decision regarding the reintroduction of two-way traffic would be made only after a thorough discussion and resolution in an MCC council meeting.
