Prayagraj witnessed a stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh early Wednesday as massive crowds gathered for the sacred ‘Amrit Snan’ on Mauni Amavasya. Officials confirmed that a surge of devotees heading towards the Sangam led to a chaotic scene, leaving at least 30 women injured, who are now receiving treatment at the central hospital in the Mela area. While many deaths are feared, authorities have yet to confirm any fatalities. The Uttar Pradesh government had anticipated around 10 crore pilgrims on this auspicious day and had implemented extensive security measures to manage the influx.

Addressing the media, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reassured the public that the situation was under control despite the high crowd pressure. He urged devotees to use alternative ghats instead of focusing solely on the Sangam Nose and warned against believing in unverified rumours circulating on social media. Authorities remain on high alert, with additional forces deployed to regulate the ongoing pilgrimage. The Maha Kumbh, known as the largest religious gathering in the world, continues amid heightened security and crowd management efforts.
