Bidar and Udupi, two culturally and ecologically significant destinations in Karnataka, are set to receive a transformative upgrade under the Talent-Based Destination Development Programme, part of the Swadesh Darshan initiative by the Ministry of Tourism. Aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and fostering competitive development, the program will allocate Rs 25 crore for Bidar under the cultural tourism category and Rs 10 crore for Udupi, focusing on eco-tourism and the Amrit Dharohar scheme. These projects are expected to position Karnataka as a premier tourist destination with world-class facilities.
The Ministry has identified 42 destinations across India for this initiative, with Bidar and Udupi being among the chosen few. A detailed project report for the proposed developments has been submitted and is awaiting approval, with funds to be disbursed in the upcoming fiscal year. The initiative is not only geared toward improving individual sites but also aims to foster healthy competition among states to attract more tourists by offering enriched travel experiences. The program underscores the state's commitment to showcasing its diverse heritage and natural beauty on the global stage.
