Mangaluru, Feb 2: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) displayed its maritime strength before Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot during a spectacular "Day at Sea" event aboard ICGS Varaha on Sunday. Held 20 km off New Mangalore Port in the Arabian Sea, the event marked the 49th Raising Day of the Coast Guard. The Governor, along with U.T. Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, witnessed firsthand the ICG’s operational excellence. Deputy Inspector General P.K. Mishra, Commander of the Karnataka unit, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries before the ship set sail for an impressive live demonstration.

The Governor was honored with a ceremonial guard of honor before the Coast Guard showcased a series of high-intensity drills. The demonstrations included a simulated search and rescue operation with a helicopter and lifeboat, firefighting exercises, ship maneuvering, small arms firing, and a dramatic live inflation of a life raft. The event highlighted the Coast Guard's preparedness in safeguarding India's maritime borders and responding to emergencies at sea, reinforcing its vital role in national security and disaster response.
