Suratkal: Mangaluru City North MLA Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty has urged the Railway Ministry to develop Surathkal Railway Station as a terminal station to improve railway connectivity in the region while easing congestion at Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction stations. On January 30, he laid the foundation stone for development work at Surathkal station under Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), alongside Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta. MLA Dr. Shetty emphasized that he had been advocating for better passenger amenities at Surathkal for a long time, and the ongoing development was a step towards fulfilling that vision.

Highlighting the benefits of the proposed terminal, MLA Dr. Shetty stated that Surathkal’s strategic location, with its proximity to major industries and educational institutions, makes it an ideal hub for enhanced railway operations. By shifting some of the railway traffic to Surathkal, the move would not only decongest existing Mangaluru stations but also improve travel convenience for residents and commuters. He also acknowledged the strong support from MP Brijesh Chowta in pushing for this much-needed infrastructure upgrade.
