At the 134th birth anniversary celebration of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar held at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader underscored the enduring relevance of the Constitution in shaping a strong and inclusive India. Khader emphasized that true patriots are those who live by constitutional values, which empower the nation and protect its unity. He encouraged citizens to read and understand the Constitution and imbibe the principles championed by Dr. Ambedkar. Khader highlighted how, unlike early democracies like the United States and France, India granted voting rights to women from the very beginning—thanks to Dr. Ambedkar’s unwavering commitment to equality.

Participating as the chief guest, MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta acknowledged Dr. Ambedkar’s vital role as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee, noting how his vision laid the foundation for unity and upliftment of marginalized communities. Chowta remarked that India’s emergence as the world’s fifth-largest power is a testament to Ambedkar’s foresight and dedication. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in honoring Ambedkar not just through statues and memorials, but by promoting his ideals. Ambedkar’s contributions to both geographical and cultural unity were central to India’s democratic spirit, making the Constitution a timeless guide, he added.

The event, jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Mangaluru City Corporation, and the Department of Social Welfare, also saw recognition of academic excellence. Meritorious students from social welfare hostels were honored for their outstanding performance in the SSLC and PUC exams. Symbolic approval letters for various welfare schemes under the Ambedkar Development Corporation were distributed to eligible beneficiaries. The ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. Hemalatha, Deputy Director of the District Social Welfare Department, and featured a keynote address by Dr. Vasudeva Belle. Several dignitaries, including MLC Ivan D’Souza and Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, were also present at the event.
