On March 25, 2025, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Dakshina Kannada district organized a protest against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The demonstration took place near the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Mangalore's Town Hall, where BJP leaders and workers expressed their opposition to Shivakumar's recent statements suggesting potential amendments to the Constitution.

This protest adds to the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Shivakumar. In December 2024, Shivakumar responded to BJP's protest plans by asserting his resilience, stating, "I am still alive and not dead." He emphasized the importance of preserving and implementing the democratic system established by Mahatma Gandhi. The recent demonstration underscores the escalating discord surrounding constitutional discussions in Karnataka's political landscape.

The protest saw the participation of key BJP leaders, including district president Sathish Kumpala, MLAs Umanatha Kotian, Vedavyas Kamath, Dr. Bharath Shetty Y, Harish Poonja, and Bhagirathi Murulya. Also present were district general secretaries, MLC Kishor Kumar Puttur, senior leaders like Captain Ganesh Karnik, Sudheer Shetty Kannur, along with BJP office-bearers, mandal presidents, and party workers. The BJP leaders strongly condemned Shivakumar’s statements, asserting their commitment to safeguarding the Constitution and democratic values.
