In a decisive move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, the MLA from Bijapur City, Karnataka, for six years due to his persistent criticism of the party and senior leader BS Yediyurappa. The expulsion follows a series of show-cause notices issued to Yatnal, culminating in a letter from the party's Central Disciplinary Committee on March 26, 2025, citing "repeated violations of party discipline" despite prior assurances of compliance.

Yatnal has been a vocal critic of the party's state leadership, particularly targeting Yediyurappa and his son, BY Vijayendra, accusing them of promoting dynastic politics and contributing to the BJP's electoral setbacks. His contentious remarks extended beyond party lines, including a crude comment about Kannada actor Ranya Rao, leading to an FIR against him in Bengaluru's High Grounds Police Station. The BJP's action underscores its commitment to internal discipline and a unified front ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
